The Oasis Concerts at Heaton Park – Don’t Look Back In Anger…if you’re arrested!

This weekend, thousands of music fans will be heading to Heaton Park in Manchester for the much-anticipated Oasis concerts.

While it’s set to be a fantastic event – and for those lucky enough to be there, we hope you enjoy the occasion, but with large crowds and plenty of partying, it’s important to know what to do if things go wrong — especially if you or someone you know is arrested for drug offences, fighting, or any other antisocial behaviour.

Common Arrests at Large Events Like These

Events of this size often see a rise in certain types of offences. Our own experience tells us that events like this have historically seen us called out plenty of times for these common charges:

  • Possession of drugs (including cannabis, ecstasy, ketamine, etc.)
  • Possession with intent to supply
  • Public order offences (e.g., fighting, verbal abuse)
  • Drunk and disorderly behaviour
  • Antisocial behaviour or breaching dispersal orders
  • Drink/Drug Driving – either after the concert or even the day after

What Happens If You’re Arrested?

If you’re arrested, you’ll likely be taken to a local police station for questioning. This can be a stressful experience, especially if it’s your first time.

The police will inform you of the offence you’re suspected of committing, and you will be interviewed under caution.

Do not say anything until you’ve spoken to a solicitor.

You have the legal right to free and independent legal advice, and choosing the right solicitor early on can significantly impact the outcome of your case.

Drug Possession and Supply: What’s the Difference?

Being caught with drugs on you can lead to a possession charge, which varies in seriousness depending on the substance and quantity.

However, if there’s evidence you intended to supply drugs to others (even if you’re just sharing with friends), this can escalate to a charge of possession with intent to supply — a far more serious offence that can lead to a prison sentence.

Fighting, Antisocial Behaviour, and Public Order Offences

Arguments, pushing, and physical fights can lead to assault or public order offences. Even shouting abuse can land you in trouble under public disorder laws.

If you’re drunk and causing a nuisance, you might be charged with drunk and disorderly conduct, which can still result in fines or court appearances.

Drink/Drug Driving

Again, with the party atmosphere and the long day, those who risk drink/drug driving following the event carry a huge risk of significant criminal charges – and potentially seriously damaging implications.

It’s worth also bearing in mind that where significant amounts of alcohol and/or drugs are consumed over a long day, the following day can also present drink/drug driving issues. You’d be surprised how many times we have been called out numerous times to those caught out the following day from an event like this over the years.
