Legal Aid Cuts – Judicial Review Success
Mortons Solicitors are delighted to hear the news of the successful judicial review of the Government plans for cutting criminal legal aid by £220 million. At the High Court Mr Justice Burnett ruled that the Ministry of Justice consultation process was “so unfair as to amount to illegality”.

The Sentencing Council has published the definitive guideline on sexual offences on 12 December 2013 with the guideline will come into effect on 1 April 2014.

Updates : 17 Year Olds To Be Treated As Youths
From 27th October 2013 the updated Police & Criminal Evidence Act Codes of Practice come into force. One important update is that 17 year olds will be treated as youths in the police station and it will be mandatory for their interests to be represented by an Appropriate Adult.
